Richard Carmona is RIGHT! Cuban-American Rubio is playing games with those of Mexican descent who don’t benefit from Cuban amnesty. Why is it that Puerto Rican-Americans like Rep. Luis Gutierrez and Carmona have empathy for Mexicans moreso than those pesky Cuban Republicans like Marco Rubio?
It’s pretty simple, folks. I don’t think it is unreasonable for Sen. Marco Rubio to support the original Republican version of the DREAM Act via Sen. Orrin Hatch. But because Republicans are playing games with Latinos — they fear that President Obama signing a DREAM Act will somehow create generational Latino Democratic voters. When will Republicans get the fact that Latinos are micro-targeting each state with a high Hispanic population watching hawkishly how Congressmen and women have voted, and how Senators are voting? Latinos gravitate towards people who will support our youth.
Rubio supported Arizona’s harsh anti-immigrant law and kicked us while we were down and out. Now that it is an election year, he is changing his views that will create a permanent underclass because he is vying for an appointment. Rubio’s family has benefited from the Cuban amnesty. If Rubio really cared about the largest demographic within the Latin population via the Mexican-Americans … he ought to get behind a Mexican Adjustment Act.
But more than likely he won’t because Rubio is playing the political game in a key Presidential election cycle.
Kudos for Richard Carmona. I’m glad to see that according to a recent poll — Arizona voters favor the DREAM Act. We were dismayed in seeing Jeff Flake vote against it in December 2010.

Jon Kyl (R), had some blunt criticism for Republicans on the topic of illegal immigration.“Why do you think they’re reworking their initial vitriolic, far-right, ‘deport everybody’ (message)?” he asked. “Why? Do you think that all of a sudden there’s an epiphany and their hearts have opened up to people who are struggling? I don’t think so. I think it’s a political calculation – that they recognized they cannot win their races and stay in office unless they embrace the Hispanic community. So, I really feel it’s very disingenuous.”
Carmona’s criticism of the GOP on illegal immigration comes as Rubio, a rising Republican star and the son of Cuban immigrants, is spearheading an effort to produce an alternative to the DREAM Act. FULL STORY.
